"We're in a critical cycle. We enjoy a very high quality of life here. We're still free of many problems which have encroached on larger cities, making them less desireable places to live. That's what makes our city so attractive to others.
However, as those benefits fuel growth, that growth will challenge the quality of life that makes Provo so attractive to all of us in the first place.
If we're not very careful--and very smart about managing our community--we jeopardize the quality of life".
"I love Provo and I'm excited to be able to serve again. With your help in the coming election, I will join six other fine people on the council to work on maintaining and improving the quality of life that Provo residents enjoy. "
While on the city council I plan to:
Protect family neighborhoods through careful planning
Support economic development, building on retail successes
Foster a healthy environment for businesses to come and stay
Budget with the taxpayer in mind
Be collaborative with local state and federal representatives
Build a bright future for Provo using city-wide teamwork and ideas
Give my full-time effort to serving Provo
Last year George was asked to serve on a Provo City Council Finance Committee to address Provo's long-term budget needs. Serving on this committee was one of the main reasons he decided to again seek election to the city council.
“I feel my experience in working with budgets during my business career and as Provo’s mayor, and as a city council member, gives me a unique opportunity to assist the administration and city council in ensuring the long-term financial viability of Provo.”
“Having encouragement and support from current and former Provo City Council members and state legislative representatives, I felt if the citizens of Provo, by their vote, feel that I am the best person to serve them and Provo’s interests and needs, then I have the desire and energy to serve again."
